Congressman Joaquin Castro selected Our Casas Resident Council, Inc. to receive a Community Project award of $1,057,257 for the High Impact Housing Project for owner-occupied home repairs in the near Westside. Congressman Castro secured a total of $15.6 million for Community Projects in San Antonio. The HUD-funded project should start in a couple of months. Bexar County also awarded $300,000 for owner-occupied home repairs in the Westside. Coupled with the construction of affordable homes in the Westside, Our Casas will be rebuilding our community one family at a time with the help of our funders and partners. More information and applications will be available soon.

The next set of affordable homes are being built by Our Casas at the corner of North Hamilton and Chihuahua Streets. Our Casas is now taking applications from families or individuals interested in buying the homes on 2427 and 2423 Chihuahua Street (on the corner of North Hamilton and Chihuahua Street) with three bedrooms and two baths that will be ready for a qualified first-time homeowner in the fall of this year. Since Our Casas uses City of San Antonio/HOME federal funds to keep the price of the home affordable, the first-time homeowners need to have a family income that is 80% or less of the area's median income (for a family of four this translates to an income of $66,300 or less). The family must still make enough money and have a credit score and other financial matters in place to qualify for a mortgage from a lender. The five homes in the Zarzamora Homes Project will be on Vera Cruz, Santiago, and Chihuahua Streets--between N. Zarzamora and Apache Creek. If you feel that you qualify, please call Our Casas at 210 354 2400 or email us at ourcasas@stic.net or send a message via this website for more information and to start your application. Our Casas' HUD-certified housing counselor, Juan Gutierrez, can help you get your financial matters in order. Thanks to the City of San Antonio HUD/HOME program and the San Antonio Affordable Housing program, LISC of San Antonio, the San Antonio Housing Trust, SER National, and Esperanza for their financial support and technical assistance.
